She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen -- especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he'd be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it's harder and harder to keep him at arm's length. The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass."Your next favorite romantic comedy...The Friend Zone is that rare beach read with tons of heart that will make you laugh and cry in equal parts." ---PopSugar"Your next rom-com to obsess and cry over." ---CosmopolitanGoodreads Choice Awards nominee - Best Romance, Best Debut O, The Oprah Magazine Best Romance Novels of the yearAudie Award FinalistUSA Today bestsellerBookish Best Books of the year SheReads Best Romances of the yearWomen's Health Best Romance Novels of the yearGood Housekeeping Best New Books for Summer PopSugar Best Books of Summer Publishers Weekly Starred Review Booklist Starred Review Booklist Top 10 Romance Debuts of 2019Book The Friend Zone Review :
So, this isn't my genre. Nothing against it, but I'm not into summer reading, breezy, rom-com romances. It's just not my thing. But as a follower of the author's social media accounts, I figured I'd buy this book as a "thank you" for the literal stitch in my side author Abby Jimenez has given me laughing over her dog and cupcake escapades (cakecapades?) on more than one occasion. I never even planned on reading it.But, hey, I have this book hanging out on my Kindle and I figure, "well, I can at least read a couple of chapters" because, you know, being supportive and all. So after putting the kids to bed I opened it up to give it a look-see.WHAM. At 2:30 this morning, wiping a final tear off my face after a last bought of ugly-crying, I finished this book. I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. My brain literally refused to let me go to sleep until I finished this book. I'm now a hot mess, running on three and a half hours of sleep and black coffee having to go to work and be a productive adult which due to a haze of exhaustion I'm going to fail at spectacularly.BUT IT WAS WORTH IT.This book grabs you by the feels and wrestles you onto the emotions roller coaster then laughs maniacally as you hold on for dear life. This book is snort-laugh out loud funny and chock full of sarcasm. The two main characters, though drawn on the more extreme sides of their personality types, are still understandable and relatable so you root for them and get emotionally invested. Then, once you're invested, you want to tear your hair out in exasperation and smack both of them upside their heads to just figure it out already. Then you snort-laugh some more. This repeats until the author sucker-punches you. Hard. And you ugly-cry. Then the author makes it up to you, so you happy cry.I'm still reeling and a little woozy from this book (though that may be lack of sleep) but...I kind of want to just pick it back up and read it again. For me, there is no greater compliment. To leave an author's world and want to go right back into it is the hallmark of a well-written, beautifully executed piece of work.So bravo on a wonderfully rendered first book, Abby. This may not be my genre, but you can better believe I'll be buying your next book. Next time, I'll make sure to start it earlier in the day and have a large box of tissues waiting beside me. Just a warning... there will be spoilers.I bought this book originally because I saw Abby’s hilarious ex-lax Facebook post. I was even more excited when I saw that the main character of the book was infertile, because I myself am infertile. It’s hard to find books with these types of characters/topics. I liked this book- especially Kristen’s struggle of telling Josh about her infertility because I went through the same thing. I liked this book until the very end when the infertile character miraculously got pregnant the first time she did it with her romantic interest. I had to throw this book away. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard the following: “My sister’s boyfriend’s cousin couldn’t have kids but once they started to talk about adoption it happened!” Or, “You just need to relax!” I could go on. Anyway, I don’t think everyone always gets their “happy ending” and I also don’t think your life has to be any less fulfilling if it doesn’t happen. This book is like a slap in the face. It’s not that easy and for a book with this storyline I think that was the “happy ending” way out.
